Features Not Supported after Series 7 Version 4

This section lists previously existing products and features that will not be supported after Series 7 Version 4.


IBM Cognos Query

Series 7 Version 4 is the last major version that will include IBM Cognos Query.


IBM Cognos Architect

Series 7 Version 4 is the last major version that will include IBM Cognos Architect.


UltraSparc II and IIi Processors

Series 7 Version 4 is the last version that will support the Solaris operating system running on UltraSparc II- and IIi-based processors. Future Series 7 releases will support later versions of Sparc-based processors.


Packaging Sun One Java Enterprise Directory Server

IBM Cognos Series 7 Version 4 is the last version that will include Sun One Java Enterprise Directory Server. Future Series 7 releases will not include a Directory Server on the Supplemental CDs. You should plan to obtain a directory server separately. IBM, Microsoft, and Sun provide directory server products that are compatible with IBM Cognos Series 7.


Packaging Java Runtime Environment

IBM Cognos Series 7 Version 4 is the last version that will include a Java Runtime Environment as part of a product installation. While some Series 7 products and components such as IBM Cognos Visualizer, IBM Cognos NoticeCast, and IBM Cognos Web Services will still require a JRE, you can either use an existing environment on your computer or download a compatible JRE from the Sun Java Web site.


Access Manager Namespace 15.2

Series 7 Version 4 is the last version that will support Access Manager namespace version 15.2. Future Series 7 releases will support Access Manager namespace version 16.0 and higher.

Steps to Determine the Access Manager Namespace Version
  1. In Access Manager Administration, log on to the namespace.
  2. From the Edit menu, click Properties.

The namespace version is identified in the Namespace Properties dialog box.

To upgrade the namespace version to 16.0 and higher, see "Upgrade Namespaces" in the Access Manager Administrator Guide.


PowerPrompts GetUserVar Method

The GetUserVar method will not be supported in the next major release after Series 7 Version 4. Instead of the GetUserVar method, you should use one of two more secure JavaScript client methods so that users must enter a valid number or string at the prompt:

Impromptu Save As Excel with Format (for Excel 2000)

Series 7 Version 4 is the last version that will allow Impromptu users to specify formatted Excel output that is compatible with Excel 2000.

Specifying Excel 2000 format on the Excel tab of the Report Properties dialog allows Impromptu report designers to control what kind of formatted Excel will be created when either

Future Series 7 releases will provide the richer formatting capabilities that can be used with Excel 2002 and later versions.


Transformer OLE Automation

Previous versions of Transformer provided OLE automation support using a program language interface as an alternative to the Transformer user interface. Product features introduced in version 7.3 and higher were not supported using OLE automation.

In this IBM Cognos 8 Transformer release, support for OLE automation in Transformer has been deprecated. Transformer Model Definition Language (MDL) supports all Transformer features up to and including version 8.3. MDL will continue to be the supported IBM Cognos method for automating Transformer models.


Transformer Client/Server Synchronization

Previous versions of Transformer included two different installations: the UNIX Server installation and the Windows Client installation. This IBM Cognos 8 release provides one version of Transformer. This one version can be installed on the appropriate platform.

In this IBM Cognos 8 Transformer release, client/server synchronization, including the PowerGrid Network daemon and NetInfo, has been deprecated.
