If you click the link for an IBM Cognos Series 7 Quick Tour and it fails to open, check the pop-up blocker setting in your Web browser. Some browsers, such as Firefox, block pop-up windows by default. For the tours to launch correctly from their links, you must disable pop-up blockers.
If you switch between displaying the IBM Cognos Visualizer Web Edition Client inside and outside of a browser window, the Client may take several seconds to respond.
This problem is due to difficulties with the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4x.
To resolve this problem, do one of the following:
When you try to open a Visualization NewsItem in Upfront, an error message may tell you that the data source cannot be opened. This message can occur after you use IBM Cognos Deployment Manager to unpack a package of visualizations, and then use the autofill option in the mapping editor. If the autofilled data source is incorrect, IBM Cognos Deployment Manager does not generate an error message.
There are several options to work around this problem:
The map data currently provided as part of the IBM Cognos Visualizer product may not always represent the most up-to-date geo-political boundaries as those currently provided by MapInfo.
If you use Internet Explorer 7, you may get an unreadable display with higher zoom settings. For example,
To correct the display, reduce the Internet Explorer 7 zoom setting.
When a user without administrative privileges runs MapInfo Geoset Manager on a computer running Microsoft Windows Vista, they will receive an error message:
"Failed to Update the Registry, please try using REGEDIT".
This message will reappear each time MapInfo Geoset Manager is started.
The user can ignore this message and click OK to proceed. Geoset Manager will run as expected. Alternately, if the user can run MapInfo Geoset Manager with administrator privileges, the error will not appear.
If you use Firefox 1.0.4 or greater as your Web browser and you have not already installed the Java run-time environment plug-in, when you select the Client link for a visualization on the IBM Cognos Visualizer Web Edition Table of Contents, Firefox launches a Java run-time environment plug-in download. If you proceed with this download, you will install the most recent version of the Java run-time environment.
We recommend that you not proceed with this download. We recommend instead that you install the Sun Java Plug-in included with your IBM Cognos Visualizer Web Edition installation.
